Welcome to the second part of our guide to The Right Glass for Every Cocktail! If you're building your home bar or simply want to understand which glasses you really need, you've come to the right place. From the classic Old Fashioned to the refined flute, to the mysterious Nick & Nora glass, we'll reveal everything you need to know to choose the perfect glasses for every drink.
We've learned on the field that no cocktail is truly complete without the right glass to sip it from. And while it's true that space in the bar cabinet is limited, it's also true that — at least according to us Fuckinginers — variety is the real secret ingredient of every mixologist experience. In this article, we'll guide you through the essential basics, the must-haves, and a few tidbits to take your home bar to the next level... whatever your level of experience.
Snifter Glass

When you hold a Snifter (often called a “balloon” or “Napoleon”), you hold centuries of craftsmanship, tradition, and passion. It’s an experience similar to immersing yourself in a gripping novel, where every aroma and note tells a chapter in its rich history. The snifter, with a short stem, wide base, and tapering top, is a versatile glass that can be used for a variety of cocktails, especially those that involve slow sipping and exalting the flavors. It is primarily used to serve spirit-based drinks such as an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, or Negroni; cocktails with strong flavors such as a Moscow Mule or Gin and Tonic; cocktails “on the rocks” such as a Mojito or Cuba Libre; and smoked cocktails.
Flûte glass

Elegant and effervescent, the flute is the celebratory anthem in glass, perfect for marking moments, from delicate beginnings to grand crescendos. It is like holding a stringed instrument and, with every sip, you perceive a harmonious note of celebration. This cocktail glass is designed to concentrate the aromas of the wine and direct the flow of the liquid towards the front of the tongue. In this way, you can fully appreciate the flavor of the drink. In relation to cocktails, this glass is often used when serving champagne cocktails, Kir Royale, Bellini, etc.
Margarita glass

Every time you pick up a Margarita glass, it's an invitation to party. It's an iconic glass that stands out for its inverted cone shape (similar to an "upside down" sombrero), associated with the world of Latin summer parties and cold drinks, designed specifically to serve and enjoy a delicious Margarita or other frozen drinks in company. It is mainly characterized by its long stem, which allows you to grip it without heating the drink, and by a wide rim often used to salt or sweeten drinks to taste.
Hurricane glass

This vintage-style glass promises you an adventure with the famous Hurricane drink (named after the cocktail of the same name invented by Pat O’Brien), which invites you to discover the tropical beaches of the world. With its curves that recall distant horizons and exotic breezes, you immediately feel transported to a cabana on the beach, with the lullaby of the waves in the background. Its shape allows you to mix and serve drinks with a large amount of ice and, in addition, its diameter makes it the undisputed protagonist of all those summer cocktails in which fruit, umbrellas or other types of decorations appeari.
Nick and Nora glass

The name of the Nick and Nora glasses or bowl comes from an American film (The Thin Man) from the Prohibition era. Nick and Nora Charles are a married couple who love the good life and cocktails, parties and the upper middle class, busy investigating the disappearance of a scientist and the resulting murders. There are many scenes in the film in which the couple tastes drinks in these mini bowls: small and extremely elegant, refined, noble... This glass is traditionally used to serve classic cocktails such as the Martini, some daiquiris and other mixed or shaken cocktails. The Nick and Nora is the perfect solution for those who want to enjoy refined cocktails and relive the style of times gone by.
Choosing the right glass isn’t just about function; it’s about setting the right mood, evoking emotion, and authentically celebrating the essence of each cocktail. So next time you raise your glass, remember the story it tells and the emotions it evokes. Cheers, Fuckinginers!
